If Defcon is running at a very low frame rate, these pages
will help you diagnose and solve the problem.
Running Windows Vista? |
| Defcon uses openGL, and the Vista
openGL drivers aren't too good yet since Vista is
still in Beta. You should try to download Beta drivers
for your graphics card. At this time, only NVidia
offer these. |

Reduce Screen Options |
| Press ESC in-game to bring up the
main menu, then click Options. In "Screen Options",
try reducing the resolution and the colour depth.
On some systems 16 bit colour can run much faster
than 32 bit colour. |

Reduce Graphics Options |
Press ESC in-game to bring up the
main menu,then click "Graphics Options".
Try enabling "Low Detail World".
Also try disabling "Smooth Lines", "Show
City Names" and "Show Object Trails"
- these can cause significant slow down on older computers. |

Reduce Sound Options |
| Press ESC in-game to bring up the
main menu, then click "Sound Options". Try
reducing the mix frequency. Ensure "Hardware
3D Sound" is Disabled. |

Turn off Full Screen Anti-Aliasing |
| Ensure full-screen Anti-Aliasing
is disabled. This is a system setting in Windows,
rather than an option within Defcon. You will find
the option for this in your Graphics Options panel
(right click on the desktop, click Properties, then
click Advanced). |

Install the latest Graphics Drivers |
Installing the latest drivers for
your graphics card can provide a big speed increase.
